Kogatende

Elephant & Calf Acacia Sunset Crowned Cranes

This increasingly popular game viewing area in the north western corner of the Serengeti, with secret valleys and forgotten hills, has the Mara river running through it. The Maasai Mara national reserve in Kenya lies over border. Kogatende (Wogakuria) offers similar game viewing without the crowds.

The migration passes through from August to November, and this is the most exciting time, with river crossings and the pursuant carnivores. Even without the migration, the game viewing is varied and interesting. Birdlife abounds

Nearby, the Lamai Wedge, a sublime sweep of rolling savannah between the Mara River and the Kenyan border offers a complete contrast with the rock-strewn hillsides and fig-tree groves of Wogakuria. Here, the land is open to the sky, an endless sea of grass, and to the north lies a range of enigmatic flat-topped hills, marking the border with the Maasai Mara.
